When it comes to size and strength, crocodiles are generally the stronger of the two. On average, a Nile crocodile can be up to 7 meters long and weigh over 1000 kg On the other hand, American alligators are much smaller and less powerful.

Crocodiles

Crocodiles are part of the Crocodylidae family of reptiles and their natural habitat is found in Africa, Asia, Australia, Central America, and the Caribbean. Despite their bulk, they are extremely agile and strong hunters.

  1. They are highly intelligent, and they can use this intelligence to track down prey, even when they are underwater. They are also known to have the best senses of touch in animals, thanks to a number of special spots on their skin that detect pressure and vibration.
  2. The dome pressure receptors in their skin allow them to regulate water pressure and detect ripples when swimming. These are tiny black spots that can be seen on their skin, and are similar to the pressure receptors on your fingertip.
  3. These receptors help crocodiles avoid drowning and can also save their throats from bursting when they bite their prey. They can also detect the direction and location of their prey by detecting water movements.
  4. In addition, crocodiles have a unique valve in their throats that keeps water from bursting into their lungs when they bite their prey. This is important because if they don’t, they can become dehydrated and die from starvation.

Alligators

Alligators are also very fast on land, but they are not as speedy in the water. The difference between  Alligator and crocodile is that alligators can’t swim as quickly as crocodiles can, but they are still able to cover large areas in a short amount of time.

  1. Both crocodiles and alligators are known for their opportunistic eating habits. They can eat anything from birds to humans and mammals, and are especially aggressive towards their prey when they are hungry.
  2. These opportunistic behaviors are part of what makes them so dangerous, and they make them an important conservation threat. They can be a serious threat to people living near crocodile-inhabited areas, and they kill hundreds of people each year in Africa alone.
  3. Some crocodile species, such as the saltwater crocodile, are known for being extremely aggressive and more deadly than alligators. They can attack and kill people if they feel threatened or if they see something moving around.
  4. Some crocodiles are more dangerous than alligators, and their size, population, and area can be a factor in how dangerous they are. The most dangerous crocodiles are Nile crocodiles, which are found in Africa.

Unlike alligators, crocodiles have teeth that are meant to tear instead of crush their prey. Their bite strength is about 3700 psi, which is incomparable to any other animal on Earth. Crocodiles can also be incredibly fast on land, as well as in the water. They can reach top speeds of 30 miles per hour.
